I really like what you did with the glowy effects, but i think you could play a bit more with contrast (i.e. having a bit more dark to the things not in focus) so the fist thing I did in the upper row was desaturate it, play around with the contrast and the saturate it again. I personally think it looks more interesting and less "grey" when to add more contrast.
I'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to animal anatomy but i tried to make the anatomy look a bit more harmonious.
After that I did a little thumbnail to play around with colours and stuff.
I think the motif would look nice of you've got a little vignette effect and the add some warmer red-brown- ish colour at the things not in focus to make the blue "pop" more.

I agree completely, I should open up a photo manipulation program and mess around with the contrast and saturation like you suggested, thank you so much for the input!
To tell the truth I was actually planning to do that, but was torn between having done all the colour work with no effects as well as nothing done to it and messing around with chiaroscuro ;n;
